Earthquake Emergency – Don’t wait around!

Safety education is a strong focus in our kindergarten. To help the students and teachers understand how to act and what measures to follow in the event of an earthquake, we held a drill as part of our safety program.

What do you know about earthquake prevention?

To ensure that the children could understand the process effectively, we used a range of activities, pictures, and videos to engage their interest and develop their knowledge about earthquake safety.

Water Safety

Our friends in K3 expressed their understanding of water safety with their posters.

Drills are essential

When the earthquake alarm rang through the kindergarten, the class teachers immediately informed and directed the children to the emergency shelter. Children were reminded to pay attention to their hands, protect their heads eyes, squat under the table or near the classroom wall, etc.

Ways to protect yourself

Earthquake drills help children understand the importance of acting fast in the event of an emergency.

At home

Take shelter nearby and withdraw to a safe place after the shaking stops.

Hide under or beside solid, sturdy and covers the body, such as: table, bed, etc. Can also run to a small, supported room, such as: kitchen, bathroom and so on.

If in time, open the door to ensure that the exit is smooth; Turn off the gas switch, electric switch, lie down so that the body centre of gravity is at its lowest, face down, do not obstruct mouth and nose, grasp the solid objects around. Also squat or sit down, try to curl the body. Take care to protect the head and neck.

Public places

Follow staff commands and calmly go to the exit while keeping your distance from the people in front of you.

In case of overcrowding, cross your hands across your chest and protect yourself.

Trapped in the rubble

Try to create breathing space. If possible, cover your mouth and nose with cloth, etc., to avoid breathing dust.

Conserve strength by knocking to call for help. Pay attention to the movement outside, and wait for the opportunity to call out for help.

Try to find water and food and wait patiently for help.
