Dear Victoria Parents,

亲爱的维多利亚家长们: 

      Our country and community is currently facing difficult circumstances, and we hope our Victoria family can come together to overcome these obstacles. In the current unprecedented situation, we wish for good health and safety for all our parents, children, and staff, and your well-being always remain our utmost priority.  As a school, we are preparing a support system that helps children both in their learning and also resilience building.

      我们的国家和社会目前正面临着困难的情况,我们希望所有维多利亚的家人能够携手并肩共同克服这个困难。在当前前所未有的形势下,我们祝愿所有的家长、孩子和员工身体健康和安全,你们的安康永远是我们首要关心的。作为学校,我们正积极地准备着一个有效的系统,以支持孩子们的学习和帮助建立他们的抗逆力。 

    In the coming weeks, our teachers will be communicating with students through e-learning platforms and will ensure that they are receiving the necessary support and can maintain open communication with their teachers and peers. I strongly encourage students and parents to reach out to us if you have any issues or thoughts.

      在未来数周,我们的教师将透过网上学习平台与学生进行沟通,确保所有学生得到所需的支持,能够与自己的老师和班级的同学们保持沟通。如果您有任何问题或想法,欢迎学生和家长与我们联系。

    For our young children, this is a new, and possibly confusing and overwhelming, situation that they have never experienced before. It is important that we are here to answer any questions and to help build their resilience. A recent research project that I took part in studied how enhanced play can foster resilience building. What this suggests is that during play we should be vigilant of the child’s need and when coming across any challenges we should discuss with them about how to problem-solve and overcome difficulties.

      对我们的孩子来说,这是一个他们从未经历过的新的、特殊的情况;这可能会让他们感到困惑和不知所措。因而,重要的是我们会在这里帮助解答他们任何的疑问,帮助他们建立抗逆力。我最近参加了一个研究项目,研究游戏如何促进抗逆力。研究发现,在游戏的过程中,我们应该要注意到孩子的需要,当他们遇到任何难题时,我们应该与他们讨论如何解决问题和克服困难。

Little Hands in Big Hands, We Are Together

 “大手牵小手”共同建立家庭学习社区,把家变成学校,在抗击疫情的关键时期,孩子们还不能到学校学习,但是,家庭学校有您,陪伴孩子的妈妈老师和爸爸老师们!

      Holding hands together, let’s make home a  learning community. At present, it’s a critical time for the country to fight against this epidemic and children are required to stay at home. Parents, as always are valuable resources for children’s learning. You can help children continue with their own inquiry learning at home!

 作为一名小小的探究者,在孩子的心里一定有这样那样的问题:世界上为什么有病毒?它们怎么会到我们身上?新型冠状病毒是什么?它为什么让人类生病?要战胜它们我们应该有什么行动?……,让我们把这次的疫情作为一项独立的PYP探究内容,共同开启一次“特别”的IB探究之旅吧!

    As little inquirers, children may wonder - Why are there viruses in the world? How did humans get this virus? What is the new Coronavirus? Why does it make people sick? What should we do to overcome it? ... Let's take this epidemic as a special PYP inquiry and go inside the world of viruses.

Line of inquiry探究路径:

1.Talk with our children at home to increase children’s understanding of the current situation and maintain positive emotions and a healthy mindset.

       在家和孩子进行简单谈话/讨论,更好地帮助孩子认识现状,保持一个良好的、积极的心态。

(1)Explain to children why they are not going to school and why this weekwe will study at home.

    向孩子解释为什么他不去上学,为什么这周要在家里学习。

(2)Talk to children about viruses and ask them to think of any questions they have.See which questions can be solved by looking for information on the internet.

      和孩子一起学习认识病毒,问他们有哪些冠状病毒的问题想知道,看看哪些问题可以通过在互联网上查找信息来解决。

(3) Choose some questions from the table below and work with your child to find answers to these questions in a variety of ways. simplify your answers explaining facts in an appropriate way for children’s understanding at their particular age group. 

     花点时间和孩子一起从下列话题中挑选一些适合孩子的话题进行探讨,和孩子一起通过多种途径找寻问题的答案。尽可能用简单的语言和他们能理解的方式解释事实。

(4)Soothe children’s worries byassuring that they are safe with you and explain to them that it is normal tofeel anxious sometimes.

    向孩子保证他和你在一起是安全的,并解释有时感到焦虑是正常的。

2.Expose your child to news reports about the newcoronavirus.

     让孩子接触有关新型冠状病毒的新闻报道,了解疫情进展。

3. Involve your child in the cleaning of the home environment to protect the family’s health.

     让孩子参与家庭环境的清洁,为保护自己的健康努力。

4. Use this as an opportunity to increase children’s awareness of their own health and hygiene explaining in simple ways why we should wear a mask when going outside and why we should regularly wash our hands.

     利用这个机会提高孩子对自身健康和卫生的意识,用简单的方式解释为什么我们外出时应该戴口罩,为什么我们应该经常洗手。

5.Try to keep normal daily routines as much as possible, a stableroutine is fundamental in controlling anxiety, increasing confidence levels and learning retention.

     尽量保持正常的日常生活,一个稳定的日常生活是控制焦虑、提高自信水平和学习记忆的基础。

 Children can record their owninterests or concerns (these topics can be learned from everyday events or fromreading or news). They can record topics by writing, drawing, or videotaping,and then ask questions that lead to more in-depth exploration. Finally, they can summarize these findings and records for sharing and displaying withothers. Questions can be prompted with five W's: What,Where,Who,When and Why?

      孩子们可以收集自己感兴趣或关心的话题(这些话题可以是从日常生活中的事物或从阅读、新闻中获得)。他们可以通过写、画、或者录像等方式记录话题,然后进一步通过问题引导更深入的探究,最后汇总这些发现和记录用于与他人分享和展示。提问可以使用5个W,即What,Where,Who,When and Why进行思考的提示。

  • Find out as much information aspossible and make a poster to display what children have learnt throughout theexercise.找出尽可能多的信息,并制作一张海报来展示孩子们通过练习所学到的知识。

  • Make a guidebook of personalhygiene methods and preventative measures to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.制作一本个人卫生和防疫手册。

  • Design a upgraded mask to preventinfection.设计一个升级版的口罩。
